A Church with a Heart ... In the Heart of the City

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

United Methodist Women
PURPOSE

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ, to develop a creative, supportive fellowship, and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

MEMBERSHIP

The door to membership in United Methodist Women is open and welcoming.  Membership is voluntary intentional.  Any woman, regardless of church or denomination, may become a member - who chooses to belong, is committed to it's purpose and is willing to become involved in global mission through United Methodist Women.

THE CORDELIA SOMMERS FRIENDSHIP CIRCLE

This circle is designed to meet the needs of housewives, retirees and anyone available to meet during the day. It meets every first Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the church parlor. Jean Wascom is the president and Inez Townsend is the vice-president of this circle.

 THE ROUND CIRCLE

This circle is designed to meet the needs of working women in the  evening but all women are welcome.  It meets every Third Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall (excluding June, July, November and December).  We start with supper provided by the Hostess for the month.  Next, we discuss upcoming United Methodist Women events and means of providing support for certain missions.  Then we have a Bible study.

LIBRARY CORNER

Just for the Ladies--- One of the programs sponsored by the U.M.W. is a Reading Program. Any lady who attends Ingleside may participate. The goal is to read at least one book in each of 4 categories and to be knowledgable of the two magazines, "Response" and "New World Outlook". The categories include: Education for Mission, Nurturing for Community, Social Action, and Spiritual Growth.

Before the U.M.W. Annual Conference in September, you may submit the titles that were read throughout the year to the UMW Program Resource person. All Readers will receive recognition after the  U.M.W. Annual Conference.

If you are interested in participating in the UMW Reading Program, just check out a book from the UMW Collection in the Library. Check out is EASY. Sign your name on the check-out card and place it in the check-out box. Pick up a form for keeping up with the books you read.  In the summer you will submit the form to the resourse person. The magazines are located in the Library, also.

Many of our books burned in the fire, but some titles have survived and they include "Schools That Do Too Much", "Crimes Against Nature", "Whither Thou Goest", "Susanna Wesley, a Mother With A Difference", "Beyond Greens and Cornbread", "Shafted", "Africa, Lord Hang Onto Me and Don't Let Go" and "Miriam, Mary and Me".
